Breastfeeding Games: How to Keep Your Baby Focused

Breastfeeding Games: How to Keep Your Baby Focused www.BreastfeedingPlace.com #breastfeeding #toddlersBreastfeeding can be a wonderful bonding experience. But sometimes feeding your baby in situations where they can become distracted can be difficult and darn right embarrassing. You know what I mean if anyone has walked up and started talking to you so that your baby looks and flashes everyone. That moment for me was when my son looked and sent milk spraying onto my husband’s First Sergeant. I don’t think I have ever turned so red. (Note: He took it really well.) Enter: the need for breastfeeding games!

5 Breastfeeding Games to Play with Baby

Here are five easy breastfeeding games to help keep your baby on task rather then looking around. Or, you can just play these to promote bonding while nursing!

  1. This little piggy. If your baby is barefoot, this one will make them smile and you can enjoy those itty-bitty baby toes.Breastfeeding Games: How to Keep Your Baby Focused www.BreastfeedingPlace.com #breastfeeding #toddlers
  2. Patty cake. I use this when my baby is in a scratching mood. (Why is it that no matter what you do, baby nails feel like claws?) I hold her hand with her little fist around one finger and use the breast in place of the other hand.
  3. Peak-A-Boo. If you need to use a cover and your baby is not a fan, peek-a-boo is a great way to keep baby from fussing.
  4. Teach baby the names of body parts. Spend time touching parts of your baby and name them. Nose, arm, hand, foot etc.
  5. Teach baby basic sign language. Easy one handed signs like milk (squeeze and release fist) are great for teaching to baby during feeding time.

Other things such as nursing jewelry can help keep baby focused on the breast instead of looking around. Nothing can guarantee baby won’t decide to play a game of let-go-and-look-around! But if nothing else, these breastfeeding friendly games are great to enjoy time together and bond.

Do you have breastfeeding games you play with baby while he nurses?
